Unfathomably changeable weather conditions played the leading role in today's proceedings. One moment it would be cloudy and overcast. The next moment there would be a brisk wind. Following that, we would find ourselves blinded by whiteout accompanied by driving, hale-like snowfall. Then, suddenly, the sun would come out again. At least the weather wasn't boring.

During those frequent periods of very poor visibility, we might be tempted to miss out a skiing leg altogether; but we were saved by or Briko ski-masks. The masks have lenses that enhance contrast. They help us see through whiteout with incredible efficiency. Comparing the view with or without the mask on, the difference is clear. With Briko mask on, you can see the lay of the snowbound surface, and its undulating profiles. Without them, you see nothing.

On the shortest one-hour leg of the day we traveled less than a kilometer. On the best legs we covered about 2.5 km. In the evening we were able to ski on a friendly, level playing field. This helped us to set a new distance record for the day: 21.3 km.
